Rivers Constructions was engaged to design and construct a new concrete bypass pit and bypass connection point into the existing 800mm concrete lined, mild steel rising main near the existing station.
The complexities of this project were:
- High water table and an excavation depth over 5 meters.
- Large incoming flows into the station meant a short time window to drain the existing rising main, maintain the incoming flows and perform the cut-in during the low flow night hours.
Rivers Constructions developed a design and construction methodology that allowed for the cut-in and installation of the new pipework assembly to be undertaken and completed in one night.
This eliminated the risks from the project of undertaking two shutdowns of the station.
The project exceeded the original program duration due to customer design and additions to the scope of works.
This difficult and technical project was completed without incident and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
